International Partnerships

Live Music Now is an international movement, located across Europe and with offshoots inspired by Live Music Now in the USA and South America. Live Music Now Scotland leads on the international development of the scheme on behalf of Live Music Now throughout the UK, with our Director, Carol Main MBE, also Co-ordinator of the LMN International Co-operation Group.

This group comprises representatives of Live Music Now branches in Austria, Germany, France, the Netherlands and the UK. The group facilitates international peer-to-peer exchange of musicians, shares best practice and ideas and puts on an international conference every two years.

Live Music Now Scotland works in close co-operation with the Scottish Government’s international offices in Ireland, London, Brussels and Paris, providing live music at events and reaching into the heart of the local communities which the offices serve, with concerts in schools, care homes, day centres and hospitals.

A number of residencies have taken place further afield, offering musicians exceptional opportunities in personal and professional development. These have included three x 3 month residencies in Mumbai, with street, slum and special needs children, working through strategic partners in India, and several visits to Abu Dhabi, where musicians have taken up residencies in schools for children with additional support needs in partnership with the UAE’s Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation.

In working internationally, Live Music Now Scotland aims to provide international opportunities for musicians, strengthen international networks and raise the profile of Live Music Now across the world. We are a member of the European Music Council, European Folk Network and European Federation of National Youth Orchestras, of which Carol Main is a Board member.
