Aloysius Duo

Saxophonist Christopher Lo Jun Hao (from Hong Kong) and British Composer-Pianist Reese Carly Manglicmot began collaborating as a duo in October 2023. Individually, they are highly decorated artists: Christopher recently progressed to the finals of the Edinburgh Festival Concerto Competition 2025 and claimed the title of Solo Woodwind Champion at the same competition; and Reese was named as a winner of the prestigious BBC Young Composer Competition in 2023, and was Commended in the inaugural Raymond Ali Liszt Piano Competition at the RCS.

Operating initially as the Hoolan Duo and under their individual names, they have performed in a variety of exciting contexts, ranging from a salon-style affair at the Scottish Arts Club (Edinburgh) to appearances at St. Giles’ Kirk and Glasgow Cathedral, as well as fundraising endeavours in the Burrell Collection and the Ogilvie Centre at St. Aloysius’ Church (Glasgow).

However, Christopher and Reese felt a growing sense of duty to share their highly engaging performances to audiences who have little or no access to high quality live music. They then rebranded as the Aloysius Duo, with the mission to use their musical gifts to raise awareness for good causes, and to provide people (regardless of age or background) with inclusive and enjoyable artistic experiences.

Their programming is highly flexible and audience-centred. Past performances have showcased not only the Duo’s versatility and sensitivity in ‘standard’ repertoire, but have also included elements such as free improvisation, daring new music and poetry recitations upon request.

They successfully auditioned onto the LMNS Scheme in March 2025, and are looking forward to carry out their mission using the beautiful language of music as a means of communication.
