Dominic Blaikie
Dominic is a singer-guitarist living in Edinburgh with a real love for song in all it’s forms. Raised in a music loving household, folk and traditional music’s rich tapestries always resonated most deeply. After fiddle lessons at primary school, Dominic picked up the guitar as a teenager and never looked back, finding soul, jazz and americana along the way. These ingredients would combine to make an exciting and flavoursome dish.
As a freelance musician now for 10 years, Dominic has been fortunate over many years to have been involved in the bustling traditional music pub session scene in Scotland’s capital, meeting and collaborating with many wonderful musicians along the way, whilst developing and honing his versatile craft. He performs regularly with long-term duo partner Rachel Petyt (Dowally, Wayward Jane) and bands The Magnus Turpie Combo, Swelkie, The Gorms and Crooked River Kings.
Since volunteering musical performances at Edinburgh care homes during the shutdown of 2020, Dominic has been increasingly interested in the power of music as a healing, transformative force, outside of the night time economy. He jumped at the chance to join Live Music Now Scotland to be part of an organisation that brings music to people who might not be exposed to it having seen first hand how something so simple can bring so much joy.
Whether playing foot-stomping reels for cèilidh dancing, playing a bride down the aisle with a tender ballad, accompanying expert and novice performers alike at pub sessions or leading a singalong in a care home, Dominic’s keen ear and empathetic style is always well received.
Dominic joined Live Music Now Scotland in 2025.
