Duo Spectrum
Glasgow-based ensemble, Duo Spectrum met during their undergraduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2022. Learning violin and accordion under Andrea and Djordje Gajic, Ksenia and Melia started their duo thanks to their teachers, creating not only a strong musical connection, but also a close friendship.
Coming from two different sides of the world, they both started classical music at a very young age. Ksenia, from Russia and Melia, from France are very keen in bringing the different musical backgrounds they grew up with into their music.
Since they began working together, Duo Spectrum has played across Scotland and France, including performances at Edinburgh Castle and at Glasgow’s St Aloysius Church. They also took part of the Festival of Composition PLUG at the Conservatoire, premiering new pieces written for their instruments.
Duo Spectrum explores the rich and distinctive sonic world of the violin–accordion combination, from their own transcriptions of baroque pieces to contemporary original works written for their formation.
Ksenia and Melia are delighted to have joined Live Music Now Scotland in 2026. Sharing their own musical culture to their new Scottish home has been a key part of their ensemble goals. They look forward to connecting with diverse audiences through engaging and accessible performances, broadcasting their unique instrument combination and bringing more light on the classical accordion.
