Grace Morton
Grace grew up on the North West coast of Skye, where singing and playing instruments were as important as any other subject in school and at the heart of community life. She learnt guitar from her dad and followed in his footsteps as a songwriter. Since an early age Grace has honed this craft – drawn to writing songs with a focus on honesty, storytelling, place and emotional connection.
Alongside this, Grace has spoken and sung in Gaelic since she started school. She has an ever growing repertoire of Gaelic songs, many she learnt as a child from teachers and members of the community. Singing these songs, and sharing the stories behind them, always brings her home. In recent years, she has begun writing in Gaelic too – a natural and exciting meeting point of her influences. A self-penned Gaelic song will feature on her debut album, set to be recorded in 2026 following a successful crowdfunding campaign supported by Creative Scotland’s Match Funding Initiative.
Grace’s music sits within a contemporary folk landscape, shaped by both her island upbringing and her instinct for intimate, reflective songwriting. Whether performing solo or with her band, she is known for creating a sense of closeness in a room – valuing connection over scale, and finding equal meaning in small, quiet spaces as in larger stages. Over the past six years, she has performed across Scotland, with highlights including opening Skye Live with her full band, touring solo in March 2026 on a self-organised run of dates, and supporting artists such as Rachel Sermanni, Rhona MacFarlane, and The Deep Blue.
Her path into music is closely tied to her passion for community and the importance of bringing people together. Alongside performing, Grace regularly facilitates workshops with organisations including Fèisean nan Gàidheal, Eden Court, and The Children’s Wood – creating spaces where people can explore creativity and build confidence. This work is deeply informed by her background in social care, shaping an approach that is grounded in sensitivity, warmth, and openness.
Grace joined Live Music Now Scotland in 2026 and for her, it feels like a meaningful way to bring together her experience in care, music, and the creative arts, and to continue creating spaces where connection and expression can flourish.
