Séamus Ó’Baoighill and Kristina Leesik
Séamus Ó Baoighill and Kristina Leesik came together in Glasgow 2021 whilst studying a masters in traditional music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Their duo draws upon the strong cultural connections between the Scottish & Swedish traditions, through vocals, pipes & fiddles.
Séamus was introduced to Scottish Traditional Music at a young age through the many sessions around the Highlands, (Gàidhealtachd). He was a finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2015 award. Kristina completed her studies in Swedish traditional music at The Royal College of Music in Stockholm 2020. She achieved the prestigious silver badge Zornmärket and earned the title of Riksspelman, master of Swedish traditional music. Currently Kristina performs internationally with the Swedish duo Woodlands and Glasgow based band Tern. She is also already part of Live Music Now Scotland with fellow member, harpist Eleanor Dunsdon.
Kristina & Séamus plays a mixture of Scottish, Irish, Gaelic, and Swedish repertoire. They have a strong connection to all these diverse music cultures as they are all from respective traditions where they grew up and learnt it from a very young age. One of their strengths as a multilingual duo is their ability to reach out and connect with different types of people, cultures, and languages. Combining traditional instruments with songs is something they enjoy and to engage with the audience and let them sing along if possible. Alongside performing together and in other projects they teach and love inspiring young and older people to learn and get creative with music. They joined LMNS 2025, and are excited to be sharing their music around Scotland.
Kristina and Séamus together with jazz/folk pianist Dan Brown won a Danny Kyle Award with their trio Cuan a Tuath at Celtic Connections 2025. They will be performing at the festival again in 2026.
