Zara and Luke

Zara Wardrop (soprano) and Luke Anderson (guitar) are a Scottish classical voice and guitar duo with a shared passion for making classical music more accessible and engaging for all. Their collaboration began during postgraduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2023, though their musical journey together traces back to their time at the RCS Junior Conservatoire. Now, as emerging artists on the Live Music Now Scotland scheme (joining in 2024), they are committed to bringing high-quality live performance to communities across the country.

Zara is a classically trained soprano and experienced concert presenter who thrives on building meaningful connections with audiences. Luke is a versatile guitarist whose musical background spans classical, traditional, and popular styles. As an ensemble, they enjoy curating tailored programmes for a wide range of venues, from schools and care homes to concert halls and community centres.

Their repertoire includes music from France, Spain, Brazil, Germany, and the UK – from the impressionistic colours of Ravel to the rhythmic fire of De Falla and Villa-Lobos. They are especially drawn to repertoire that blends classical tradition with the textures of folk and jazz, such as Scottish art songs and Latin American guitar music. As proud West Coast musicians, they bring a distinctive Scottish thread into their work, often reimagining songs by Robert Burns through a classical lens. Luke also writes bespoke arrangements for the duo, expanding the possibilities of the guitar and voice combination.

One of the joys of their duo is introducing audiences to the expressive world of art song in settings where a piano might not be available. Guitar and voice offer an intimate, transportable format, allowing them to reach listeners in unconventional spaces. Their performances are lively, informative, and heartfelt – often including well-loved favourites like Schubert’s Ave Maria and Ständchen, as well as lesser-known gems.

As performers, Zara and Luke have shared music in venues across Scotland, from concert series recitals to more intimate settings. They are delighted to join the incredible roster of talent that Live Music Now Scotland has cultivated and are grateful to be part of an organisation that shares their belief in the transformative power of live music. Zara and Luke joined Live Music Now Scotland in 2025.
