Rosie and Anna

Two Scottish Lassies with a passion for music! Rosie Lavery (The Ginger Soprano) and Anna Michels (The Not So Ginger Pianist) met many years ago at a summer school for traditional music when they were both 12 years old. Since then, they have performed for over a decade as a duo whenever they have been lucky enough to be in the same country. Both graduates from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, they have performed in RCS concerts and competitions together, as well as curating some external performances too.

Rosie is a singer with a passion for performing wacky unknown material and, most of all, connecting with audiences. She loves making music with anyone aged 1 to 101 and has a lot of experience working in community music and using music therapeutically. Rosie’s main goal as a musician is making music accessible and having a great laugh whilst doing it. She is a Dewar Arts Young Artist, and the recipient of the John Mathers Rising Star Award 2022 and the Help Musicians Sybil Tutton Opera Award 2022. She is currently studying at the Alexander Gibson Opera School at RCS.

Anna is a pianist who is happiest on stage with other artists; singers, instrumentalists, sometimes even dancers. Her passion for chamber music and unearthing the hidden gems of Scottish classical music has culminated in her giving lecture recitals at conferences internationally. She loves connecting with audiences in unique ways, whether that be through improvisation, storytelling, movement or meditation. Anna is a recipient of the Cross Trust, and a scholar on the Artist Diploma programme at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Together, they love performing a wide range of music, from operatic material with their very own opera company ‘Offstage Opera’, to Scots traditional tunes that make their Scottish hearts sing - they love a bit of everything! Rosie and Anna joined LMNS in 2023 and have had a busy year performing around Scotland, as well as delivering workshops and concerts as part of Live Music Now Scotland's outreach programme.
