'When musical ability and performance insight come together, wonderful things happen'
The Willow trio are a clarsach trio made up of three award-winning harpists, Sophie Rocks, Sam Macadam and Romy Wymer. Based in Glasgow, the trio are focussed on playing their own compositions and arrangements, ranging from traditional Scottish melodies to Tchaikovsky's classic Swan Lake.
Having featured on Celtic Connection’s Danny Kyle Stage, Talking Harps, Opening the Harp Chakra, Northern Soul, Local Heroes and BBC Scotland, the trio have released their debut EP Oystercatchers (funded by Tasgadh) in 2021, which is available on all streaming platforms. In 2023, the trio are releasing their debut album, The Swan of Salen, which is a musical accompaniment to the multimedia ballet project of the same name, which joins Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake with Gaelic culture, folklore and music.
Out-with the trio, each member follows a diverse career. Multi-instrumentalist Sam MacAdam performs with The Sleekit Beasties, is releasing new solo music, and is the recipient of the Paolo Nutini scholarship for songwriting; composer Romy Wymer has won second prize and the audience award in the World Harp Competition and is now writing her first album; and Sophie Rocks curates Glasgow based concert series, Music At The Green, and tours her award-winning solo show 'From Shetland to Shanghai' across the UK.
