As part of this year’s Dementia Action Week, we’ve been reflecting on a recent afternoon at the Dementia Café at V&A Dundee, where LMNS musicians Matthew Kilner and Kevin Henderson filled the room with relaxed jazz tunes and conversation.
Run by Alzheimer Scotland, the Dementia Café is a regular space for people living with dementia, alongside carers and family members. With cups of tea and baked goods on the tables, the afternoon offered time to chat, relax and spend time together in an informal and welcoming setting.
Saxophonist Matthew Kilner and guitarist Kevin Henderson formed as a duo in Glasgow in 2022, brought together by a shared love of jazz. Since joining Live Music Now Scotland in 2024, they have continued to share music with communities across Scotland through performances that are playful and responsive.
There were some lovely moments throughout the afternoon, including a few people getting up to dance during the performance. We also received warm feedback afterwards, and the photos captured on the day really reflect the atmosphere in the room — something we were very happy to be part of.
