Musicians’ Voices: JKL Duo and the Aberdeenshire school Tour

At the start of this year, two LMNS musicians shared the joyful sounds of live music in classrooms across Aberdeenshire. As part of Creative Scotland’s Youth Music Initiative (YMI), this project brought high-quality music-making experiences to children who might not otherwise have access to it, helping to spread the YMI programme’s mission to support the next generation of young creatives.

At the heart of this inspiring tour was the talented JKL Duo, Kerry Lynch (flute/voice) and Jacopo Lazzaretti (guitar). They visited a number of primary schools across the region, engaging pupils with interactive performances and workshops designed to spark imagination, build confidence, and most importantly, have fun through music.

Schools and the JKL Duo captured some of the magic through photos and videos, giving us a wonderful glimpse behind the scenes. The duo said:

We had the immense privilege to spend 5 days in Aberdeenshire thanks to Live Music Now Scotland sending us out on a schools tour. We got to meet and play for hundreds of school pupils and had so much fun! The experience reminded us of why we do what we do, and how important it is to be around live music whilst in school! Thank you LMNS for the opportunity.

The JKL DUO play music straight from the heart, using the Flute and Classical Guitar to speak to listeners all across the world. The duo released their debut album ‘The International Poet’ in 2023 and have been touring it extensively in concert series and festivals within Scottish cities such as Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee, Isle of Skye, being described as ‘Simply stunning’ (Skye Chamber Music).

KERRY is a Scottish flautist, whistle and bodhrán player. She is heavily influenced by Jazz, World and Celtic Music, and loves fusing these genres with that of Classical. JACOPO is a classical guitarist from Rome, who first came Scotland in 2015 to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland – subsequently completing a Masters in Guitar Performance there. Since, he has established himself as one of the countries most exciting guitar players.
