This month, Live Music Now Scotland is delighted to present not one, but two special opportunities to hear the outstanding Trio Contrasti live in concert. Whether you’re marking the summer solstice or simply seeking a moment of musical connection, these performances offer something for everyone.

Make Music Day at the French Institute – Friday 20 June, 6pm
We begin by celebrating Make Music Day at the French Institute in Edinburgh on Friday 20th June. This global celebration of music is the perfect setting to introduce Scottish audiences to Trio Contrasti – a trio whose name reflects not only their cultural diversity, but also the vibrant contrasts in their musical style.
Led by Armenian violinist Nora Shekyan, with Xuezhao Ma on piano and Alla Kurdiumova on cello, Trio Contrasti brings together a rich blend of musical traditions, personal temperaments and historical influences. Since forming in 2021, they’ve reached the finals of the prestigious hmt Music Prize in Rostock and released their critically acclaimed debut album Dialogues Between Eras and Cultures earlier this year on OEHMS Classics.
With their carefully curated repertoire and thoughtfully designed concert programs, Trio Contrasti serves as an inspiring example of how musicians from different cultural backgrounds bring music from various parts of the world and historical eras to life.
This is a free event, but booking in advance is advised. Register via Institut Français Ecosse.
Midsummer Tea and Tunes – Sunday 22 June, 2:30pm, Old Kirk, Kirkcaldy
Two days later, the trio travels to Fife for a Sunday afternoon concert as part of our popular Tea and Tunes series. Held in the beautiful setting of the Old Kirk in Kirkcaldy and presented in collaboration with Kirkcaldy Music Society, this Midsummer concert is a relaxed and joyful way to spend the afternoon.
Enjoy an hour of live chamber music, followed by a cuppa and a chance to meet the artists. Whether you’re a regular concertgoer or new to classical music, this friendly format welcomes all. The event is free of charge, donations invited.
