No Borders Trio

No Borders is the fusion of three lively string players who share a passion to make a positive change in not only the classical world but also in society. They are committed to breaking down barriers through live music centred around the performance of classical music in diverse community settings, such as hospitals, care homes and arts venues across Scotland. Their mission is not to book venues but create them and bring music to those who need it the most- hence “No Borders”.

Frances (violin), Suzanne (viola) and Joanna (cello) studied together at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and started playing together when Frances called for volunteers to play at the dementia unit in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH). The chemistry was so fruitful, and the demand for more concerts so strong that they decided to establish themselves as No Borders. The experience showed that the language of music could bring a real healing change in people’s lives.

They have been recipients of Glasgow UNESCO award scheme for their work at QEUH and joined the Live Music Now Scotland (LMNS) scheme in 2024. Joining LMNS is an excellent continuation of their journey, as it will help them grow their experience, create links with communities and provide visibility on their work as an established ensemble.

What they play...

Their core repertoire is classical music including composers such as Beethoven, Kodály, Weiner, Dohnányi, Elgar, to name a few. The trio also enjoy storytelling through classical music. Gathering three imaginative minds enabled them to write stories to tell alongside classical pieces of music, nurturing their audience’s imagination and providing an interactive way to listen to classical music. They are also actively arranging music, in order to have a lot of options to be flexible and adapt their repertoire to their audience. They look forward to their journey with LMNS and what the future holds!
